I2Go Ego and Audiovox mp4000 user information site

This website contains the online documentation from the original myaudio2go.com website. I have inserted comments in it to point out where it is inaccurate and or the information that no longer works. The original website was set up to allow you to download content, as well as process email so you could listen to your email and then answer it by recording on the ego. With out the original website this feature and some others do not work work.   I have color coded the text. Red is my own comments. dark blue is text that is no longer true due to the loss of the original website and black text like most of this is for the text that is still true and factual.

Memory

With Compact Flash I and II support you can expand your eGoŽ to 680MB! (That's over 10 hours of Music, News, Sports, Stocks, etc.)

As Compact Flash and IBM Microdrive sizes increase, so will your eGo's capacity. You're not locked in to today's storage limitations.

NOTE**** I have upgraded my ego to 128meg flash and also the 340mb microdrive and both work nicely. If you have tried larger microdrive or compact flash PLEASE write with your results.  Post to our forum.

********* This claim unfortunately was short lived and is no longer *********
The eGoŽ is more than an MP3 player, with interactive features that allow you to listen and respond to Email and audio content from myaudio2go.com, a real-time operating system with applications that can be downloaded from the i2Go.com site to Boost Your eGo's capabilties, and an expansion slot that allows new technologies to be simply plugged into your eGoŽ.

I have discovered ways to still be able to LISTEN to email and other text using the ego.  For more on that click the link above for the latest info.

Here is their instructions to upgrade your ego using the boost program. There is a better way and I will TELL you how to do that step by step on the latest info link   The info below is provided just FYI  I do NOT recommend you follow it. There is a more recent upgrade version and program.

Upgrade Your eGo (Boost Your EGo)

The i2go eGo is an upgradable device and there are exciting new features on the horizon. As we refine and develop new capabilities for the eGo we provide owners a convenient way to "boost" their eGo - the flash uprade. We will announce new firmware upgrades and they are available from our website. When your eGo reboots (restarts itself) your boost has been successful.

It is recommended that you close all programs including the MP3Agent before boosting your eGo. Also, it's a good idea to have batteries installed in the eGo as well.

The upgrade process begins by clicking the "boost" link found on the "Support" page. Windows will ask you if you want to open the self-unzipping file now or save it to your disk (hardrive) and open it later. In either case, when you open it you'll be presented with the window below:

Select "eGo" as shown then press the "Boost my eGo" button. A blue progress bar will begin and in a minute your eGo's firmware will be boosted to, in this case, version 1.09.
If the eGo displays "USB wait", and does not proceed to "Upgrade" within 15 seconds you need to unplug/plug the eGo from its USB cable while eGoBoost is running and resume the boost.

It is possible for the USB to not connect, thereby hanging the user's PC while the eGo has been upgraded and is working. The eGoBoost program display says, "Don't unplug or reboot the eGo", however, unplug/reboot is necessary at that point to unfreeze the PC and get USB comm working again.

If you are having difficulty upgrading your eGo, reboot your computer, and perform this process:

1) Turn the eGo off.
2) Run eGoBooster.
3) Turn the eGo on while holding the i button.
4) Hold the i button until you see "USB Wait" on the eGo
5) Press "find eGo" on eGoBooster.
6) Wait for the eGoBooster button to say, "I see USB Wait".
7) Turn the eGo off.
8) Turn the eGo on while holding the i button.
9) Hold the i button until you see "USB Wait" displayed on the eGo.
10) Press the eGoBooster button "I see USB Wait".
11) Select the update in eGoBooster.
12) Press "Boost My eGo".

If need be, don't hesitate to reboot your PC and try again. Windows is "reset" by rebooting.

Navigate Your eGo

The eGo has eight buttons. We'll cover them from left to right starting with the power button:

  • The Power button (not shown) located on the left side powers the device on and off. You must press and hold the Power button for one second to turn the eGo on or off. The power button can also be used to refresh the display when the unit is using battery power and the display has shut off. The eGo can also be powered on\off by unplugging its USB cable.

  • The "i" (Interactive) button is used to create a memo, email reply, or an interaction with an i2Go program. Press and hold this button for one second to begin recording. The first time you create a memo or email reply you also create an Outbox folder that is displayed on the eGo as "A/outbox". Beginning with firmware version 1.09, pressing the "i" button during file playback will take you to the eGo's audio settings options. Press it again to return to the file being played. For a complete rundown on the features of firmware version 1.10 please refer to the Version 1.10 "release notes". Note the instructions for installing the audio skins. This simple procedure is nothing more than using the MP3Agent to drag the "egobst.mp3" file into your eGo's "Audio" folder. Restart the eGo and watch the display as the seven skins are loaded. These seven audio skins are useful sounds associated with certain eGo functions. You must stop playing to press the interact button and record a note. Press pause then stop then push interact to record your note. If you power down and back up you will find that if you push play it will start playing where you pressed pause.

  • The Reverse (<<) button is used for scrolling backward through folder menus or songs within a folder. Press it once to jump to the previous song or folder. Press and hold this button while playing to rewind a song, after ten seconds the eGo will rewind at "10x the speed", i.e. 10 seconds for every 1 second you press and hold the button.

  • The Mode button scrolls between menu hierarchies. It allows you to adjust the tone controls and other settings while playing. It brings you to the top-level menu when paused. Beginning with 1.09, this button is called the Stop button. It will still take you up and out of the current folder.

  • Below the Mode button is the Play button. Use this button to play or pause a file. Press the Play button when paused to resume playing the track from the same position. If you navigate off the track at any time (playing or paused), then playback will start from the beginning of the next track. To restart a track just press rewind while playing.

  • The Fast Forward (>>) is used for scrolling forward through folder menus or songs within a folder. Press it once to jump to the next song or folder. Press and hold this button while playing to fast forward through the current file being played, after tens seconds the rate will jump to 10x.

  • The "-" and "+" buttons controls volume settings during playback. They are used to modify the configuration settings such as bass and treble levels. They are also used as "on\off" switches for the various settings described below.

Download Audio

While on the Internet you will want to copy MP3 files directly onto your eGo. Use the MP3Agent to browse to the MP3 files you want or use our "MP3 Search". You can drag-n-drop links to MP3 files directly into eGo's playlists or schedule the agent to do it for you later.

****** the above does not really work.  You can, however open up mp3 agent and then once you have downloaded files you can drag and drop them onto the ego using the mp3 agent program.

**** Note this below does NOT work.   I guess they INTENDED for it to work but never got around to making it work correctly in any firmware version I have seen. Instead you must STOP playback in order to create a memo and then to get back to where you were playing... cycle the power off and then back on. The ego will come on paused where you stopped playback.  When you stop playback, do it by pressing pause and then stop.  That saves the bookmark. You can then record your note with the I button as below.  I should also note that it will save your bookmark ONLY if you play material in the root directory on the memory or microdrive chip. If you have it more than 1 subdirectory deep the bookmark never works. Even when bookmarks work, they are flakey and I have YET to figure out just why    OK here is what the original website said

Record/Playback a Memo

Pressing the "i" button for one second at any time during playback will inject a memo; press the "i" button or any other button to end the memo. The date and time of this memo will be displayed on the eGo after the word "memo", for example memo_021500_142205 means that this memo was recorded on the 15th of February, 2000 at 2:22:05 PM. All memos are contained within the Outbox of the eGo, which is created the first time you make a memo or email reply.

Again the below does NOT work. It requires the original website... long gone.

Respond to Email

If you scheduled the MP3Agent to download your email into the eGo's "A/Inbox" you can respond to each message by pressing the "i" button for a second; wait a second, and record your reply. Press the "i" button or any button to finish the reply. You can reply either during or after playback of an email message. These replies (like memos) are stored in your Outbox on the eGo. Replies begin with the prefix "Re_".

Change eGo Settings

The SETTINGS menu is on the same menu level as A/AUDIO. Beginning with 1.09, SETTINGS won't be displayed and is reached by pressing the "i" button. To enter settings while playing, press the mode button. To navigate to the SETTINGS menu while not playing, use the mode button to traverse to the top level menu, then press >> or until you see SETTINGS on the display, then press the play button. To change settings you?ll use the volume controls (+\-).

BassB is your bass boost control.

  • TrblB is the treble boost control.

  • Eq provides a number of preset equalizer settings that combines the bass and treble boost functions with a bass and treble harmonic fine tune control. The following presets are available:

    • None resets the bass and treble controls to 0

    • Jazz

    • Rock

    • Pop

    • Concert

    • Vocals

    • Distortion

    • Earbud

    • Flat

  • Elapse will display the track number and the time elapsed in the current track.

  • Repeat will repeat the current file.

  • Random allows you to have a playlist's files replay in a "random" order.

  • POW stands for "power" and identifies how your eGo is being powered.

  • Clock displays the clock after about 15 seconds of no activity. Press the "+" button to turn it on standard time, press + again to switch to military time. Press ?-? to turn off the clock display.

  • Version displays the version numbers of your eGo hardware and firmware. This information is handy when you are boosting your eGo firmware. The number following APP is your eGo's current firmware version.

  • Bitrate is the compression rate you used when converting the original file into MP3 file format.

Getting Started

The MP3Agent's interface is divided into three main parts as shown by the image on the left. At the top, you'll find familiar Menus and a Toolbar. Your toolbar contains all the buttons necessary to interact with myaudio2go programs; use the functions of the eGo; or, browse the internet. As you use the various features offered by i2Go these buttons change accordingly. Place your cursor over any button and a tooltip pops up stating its function.

On the left hand side of the agent is a window with a tree-like structure These four branches are described below. This window is referred to as the TreeView.

When you expand the branches and click on a folder its contents will appear in the large window to the right. This window is referred to as the mp3agent's Browser Window. This window will display the MP3 and SC4 (voice) files contained in your programs, MP3 devices, and on your PC. From this window you will drag and drop files to your audio devices and content folders. Every download will be tracked and displayed in the MP3Agent's "Task Window". This window can be found in the agent's "View" menu.

NOTE  all the parts below that refer to this website are no longer working. This is provided FYI so you can see how they INTENDED for this all to work.   You must now download your own mp3 files and use mp3 agent to place them on the ego memory chip.

Browser

Clicking this icon will provide you with a fully functional browser. Your toolbar will have six buttons to perform the task at hand. Type an internet address (URL)in the "Address box"; press your "enter" key and the agent takes you there.

Beneath the Browser icon, you'll see www.myaudio2go.com. Click this link to go to the myaudio2go website and become a member as described below.

Underneath myaudio2go, also as part of the browser, there is a folder labeled "Favorites" that stores links to your favorite websites.

Sign-In

On myaudio2go.com, in the upper left is the link, "Sign In". Click this link to become a member. If you are already a member and have told the agent to save your login information the latter won't be necessary and you'll see your name welcomed in place of the "Sign In" link.

Network Login

If you are connected to an Intranet (LAN) then on the agent's menu select "View > Network Options" to configure this type of connection. If your LAN uses a proxy server your system administrator will know which IP address and ports to use.

Portable Players

The eGo is an internet appliance with many capabilities besides playing MP3 files. i2Go plans to support many different MP3 players besides the eGo but basically you work with them in the similar ways. The Portable Players section of the tree is where, with a rightclick of your mouse, add an eGo to the MP3Agent's capable hands.

My Computer

The last area of the agent's TreeView isMy Computer. It represents the drives and folders existing on your PC. Any folders with MP3 files are marked by an emerging green CD icon. You can drag and drop these files into your eGo's playlists.

OK now for the folders. In ther root directory youwill see inbox and outbox.   You can place files you want to listen to into the inbox but watch out... if you want the bookmark or resume feature to work when you pause,  do NOT put folders with files inside of this inbox. If you do this the bookmark will NOT work. If you need to have folders to organize your songs, put them in the ROOT directory not the inbox. The outbox is where any recorded memo files will be put.

NOTE***  The below does not work.  Without the original website there is no way to download your email to the ego. Check the latest discoveries link above where I will TELL you how I was able to read email on my ego. The below is presented FYI from the OLD website.

Configuring Messaging Content

All e-mail residing on your mail server can be downloaded by the mp3agent. If mail has left the server the mp3agent won't find it. You may want to check how you've configured your mail server to store e-mail. You can schedule mp3agent to download your e-mail or do it yourself. Your email program will still contain your mail.

Click your email account, a convenient configuration window will appear at the top of the agent's browser window. Click the "Schedule" button to tell the agent when to automate email downloads into your email account folder as well as the eGo's "A/Inbox" folder. To download your e-mail right away, right click your mail account folder and select "Retrieve mail".

To reply to email in the eGo’s Inbox press the “i” button to begin and again to end your reply. In the mp3agent, right click your email account and choose “synchronize eGo outbox”. The agent will convert these SC4 files into MP3 files and place them into the Email outbox folder. The Agent takes care of each return address.

Programs and Content   NOTE  None of this works now..... this was all part of the original manufacturer website at this web address

The "Program and Content" folder contains, by default, three subfolders. The first one is "myaudio2go.com Programs". As a myaudio2go member you can create your own programs at our website. They are stored on your PC's hardrive and accessed through the mp3agent. These programs are created by adding individual audio files or "segments" from i2Go's vast and varied archives. The image to your left shows how you might fill a "News" program with various segments. Also note the three links beneath "News". Use these links to create new myaudio2go programs. Complete instructions are found on myaudio2go.com. The image to your left is this part of the mp3agent showing how you might arrange them.

The second program folder is Messaging Content (formerly MP3Mail). You will configure this interesting service from our website. You will never look at e-mail the same way again! Right click this folder's icon, select "add email account" and the agent will take you to i2Go's "Personalized Messaging" page. All you need to enter is the same POP3, SMTP, and password information you use with your ISP (internet service provider).

Note   Media manager 3.00 IS the last software revision release before the company folded. It has many bugs but does indeed have some benifits. One is the ability to upgrade the firmware and install skin sounds on the ego. This is mostly what I use it for. As far as sending files to or from the ego it is quite buggy and don't even try using it on windows xp as it becomes even more unstable there.   When you run it the program complains it is not the latest revision and wants you to go to the website and upgrade. Problem is the website is gone. For most people this program has little use.  A memory card reader is MUCH faster and more reliable as far as getting mp3 files on and off the ego. The firmware upgrade and skin control is something you normally do ONCE and then never again.  In any case... here is what the original website had to say about their newest version of this program.

i2Go Media Manager 3.00 replaces the MP3Agent and is the next generation in

* Note: The installation of Media Manager will remove the MP3Agent from your machine. If you are using a portable player driven by i2Go technology (i.e. i2Go eGo or AudioVox MP3J), then you will be prompted upon completion of installation to go online and have your player's firmware automatically upgraded. You must upgrade your firmware for your player to work with Media Manager 3.00. The Media Manager software is compatible with computers running Windows 98, Millennium or 2000. If your PC is running Windows NT 4.0, USB is not supported. You must use the MP3Agent 2.7 and a compact flash adapter.
